Magnetek manufactures and distributes an extensive range of control solutions for Elevator and Material Handling applications, throughout the UK and worldwide. These products are manufactured overseas and distributed through the UK office.

The aim of the Apprenticeship is to provide application support for the equipment. This will involve both on site and telephone support for products including AC and DC inverters, UPS solutions, collision avoidance systems and wireless radio controls.

The specific tasks can be broken down as follows:

  • Installing new systems
  • Supporting new and existing systems both on site and by telephone
  • Responding to breakdowns
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults
  • In-house testing and repairs of faulty equipment
  • Assisting R & D with product testing
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation

Things to consider

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
