    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Duties include:

  • To perform first line telephone support for all School personnel, including problem recognition and resolution, accurately recording, updating and documenting requests using the IT service desk system
  • To provide second level end-user support to all users of varying skill levels, providing ad-hoc training as required
  • To assist in maintaining the smooth running of the network infrastructure by monitoring and troubleshooting; Servers, (Physical & Virtual), Network Switches, Remote Access Systems, Anti-Virus Management, Internet Filtering, Backup Systems, Safeguarding systems, CAT 5E/6 and Fibre connections
  • To help maintain all software and solutions used, including; Windows 7/8.1/10, Windows Server variants, MAC, Linux, School MIS System, Library Management System, Google Apps, Office 365, Access control systems, Financial systems and Biometric systems.
  • To perform installations, maintenance, upgrades and repairs as necessary to all ICT hardware, including; Desktops, Laptops, Printers, Wireless Devices, Interactive Whiteboards/Projectors, iPad’s, CCTV and phone systems
  • Maintenance of Health and Safety issues related to the use of ICT
  • To assist in developing and maintaining the School Website (Joomla) and VLE (Moodle)
  • To provide technical assistance for all School examinations and assessments requiring ICT support
  • To create and administer security lanyards for all required personnel
  • To aid with the filming and photography (including editing) of School events as required
  • To ensure audio visual setups are prepared for School Assembly's/Presentations/Events as necessary
  • To help maintain an IT asset inventory
  • To assist in the creation, maintenance and development of technical documentation
  • To liaise with outside organisations in the event of technical issues which require specialist support
  • To participate in IT related projects under the direction and guidance of the Network Manager
  • Provide IT support for the Saint Nicholas Owen Catholic Multi Academy Head Office
  • To be a highly motivated team player with the skills and ability to manage changing priorities

Qualifications required

GCSE Grade A – C, (or equivalent), in English and Mathematics is desirable but not essential. An IT qualification will also be desirable.

  • City & Guilds Intermediate Diploma in ICT Professional skills, including an industry certification (Microsoft MTA or CIW ­ Certified Internet Web Professional), together with on­site training by the employer.
  • TDM Wyre Academy delivers Advanced and Higher apprenticeship programmes that equip young people with the skills for a career in technology.
  • For those starting at Advanced (Level 3), the expected duration would be 18 months. There is an opportunity to progress on to the Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4) and then on to Degree Level.
