    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

As a member of the school admin team, your main jobs and duties will consist of:

  • Word processing / data entry
  • Use of Microsoft Excel for creating and updating spreadsheets
  • Finance duties such as telephoning suppliers and processing orders
  • Filing and photocopying
  • Dealing with incoming/outgoing post
  • Answer the telephone and take messages as well as dealing with queries from parents and visitors to the school
  • Undertake relevant and appropriate training related to the role as part of your personal development
  • To undertake tasks keeping data protection and safeguarding in mind at all times
  • Attend meetings
  • Provide reception support
  • Flexible to provide admin support to various team members
  • To carry out any other duties relevant to the post

Qualifications required

A minimum of a Grade C in GCSE Maths and English or the Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake and achieve NVQ level 2 in Business Administration. This apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to develop your skills and experience and begin to build a career.

Things to consider

You will need to have a mature and professional approach and have a due regard for Safeguarding and Child Protection, therefore you will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, prior to commencing in the post. Please be aware that you will come into contact with sensitive information, of which data security must be maintained. This position will ideally suit someone who is interested in working from an office location in a busy administrative environment. You will need to be very confident in talking to people at all levels, as well as being flexible to support the needs of the post. You must be willing to shadow senior post holders and attend any relevant training. Annual Leave must be taken when the school is closed, during term time holidays.
