As a marine engineering apprentice you will be working alongside our experienced staff undertaking various tasks such as:

  • Inboard and outboard engine servicing,
  • New engine installations
  • Engine reconditioning

The working week will be Monday to Friday. You will attend classes in a block release at our Fareham Marine Centre.

Training provider

Our Industry leading Personal Tutor will deliver outstanding teaching and learning to help energise  you to complete your apprenticeship training and leave you confident to execute  tasks to the highest standard. During this apprenticeship standard you will complete:

Foundation Phase (months 1-24)

  • Level 2 Diploma in Marine Engineering
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths & English

Development Phase (months 24-48)

  • Level 3 Diploma in Marine Engineering

The training will be delivered as combination of work based and classes/workshop sessions at our Marine Centre in Fareham.

At the end of your studies you will complete an end point assessment, this will include demonstrating techniques you have learnt and a VIVA competency based interview regarding the work completed during your 4 year apprenticeship. On successful completion the apprentice will be recognised by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) at Engineering Technician Level.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
