As an apprentice you will work alongside experienced members of staff while being trained to complete the following duties:

  • Deliver personal care to clients
  • Specialise in dementia care
  • Assist clients with daily tasks such as getting dressed and grooming
  • Assist clients at meal times

The working week will be 6 hour shifts on a rota based system and will include some weekend and evening work.

There are progression opportunities at Overcliff House, you could be a Health Care Assistant, a Senior, to even being a Care Manager.

Things to consider

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

About the employer

At Overcliff House, person centred dementia care is our speciality. Mrs M J Cooper firmly believes that each dementia is unique to the person who has it and believes that we never stop learning. She has been receiving clients with dementia into her care home for thirty years. As a smaller care home, all staff work very well together as part of a team and this offers an invaluable training for young people wishing to carve a career in Health and Social Care. We are a training care home and have had college and other apprentices routinely progress their careers within nursing through University. We believe that dementia care is a very rewarding career and are keen to continue an emphasis on training carers by encouraging apprentices to join the team and others to progress their learning - including distance learning through reputable colleges.
