    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The role will be as an apprentice chef to support the current chef, the Bistro/Cafe is now under new management and will be having a re-launch with a new menu.

Duties will include:

  • Full job shadowing of the current chef/receiving full support and mentoring whilst training.
  • Housekeeping - ensuring the kitchen is kept clean and to the high standards required.
  • Basic Food Preperation and cooking whilst training.
  • Making modern bistro food, to begin with: Breakfasts, Starters, Salads, Paninis and Desserts.

  • Must have a willingness to learn and train to become a chef.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team but also able to use own initiative.
  • Must have a genuine passion for food and want to become a qualified chef and progress within the industry.

Personal qualities

  • Must have good communication skills,
  • Have good hygiene (as working in a food environment).
  • The ability to work flexible hours.

Qualifications required

A good level of Maths and English is desired.

Future prospects

Upon completion of the Level 2 there may be an opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 and/or gain employment should there be an opportunity available at the time.
