The purpose of the role is to assist in the operation of the kitchen services and catering facilities whilst undertaking an apprenticeship qualification/s.

The key tasks will include:

  1. Following different procedures for food preparation.
  2. Ensuring food supplies are stored correctly and used resourcefully.
  3. Following recipes during food preparation and cooking.
  4. Ensuring kitchen is kept clean at all times.
  5. Arranging food items on serving plates.
  6. Preparing ingredients for dishes.
  7. Preparing appetisers, salads, stocks, sauces, soups and other food.
  8. Assisting in operating cooking equipment such as ovens, fryers, stoves and cookers.
  9. Adhering to hygiene protocols.
  10. Adhering to food presentation standards.
  11. Storing leftover food correctly.
  12. Assisting in stock rotation and food inventory checking.
  13. Checking food delivery status.
  14. Other suitable tasks in line with the job role, as requested by the senior member of staff on duty.

There are no essential qualifications for the role however you will be required to undertake initial assessments in Maths and English before beginning the apprenticeship.

Future prospects

The role of Apprentice Chef will be a key addition to the kitchen team at The View; The View has a four-person Chef team; Head Chef, Chef de Partie, Chef and an Apprentice Chef. The View is looking for an individual who is seeking a role they can commit to, learn on the job and from their experienced colleagues, and with the aspiration to continue to develop and grow with the business.

Wages Year 1: First six months: £4.00ph Second six months: £4.50ph Year 2: National minimum wage for age The View offers a competitive rate of pay for this apprenticeship position; one which is enhanced by the generous employee benefits on offer, including a staff discount. In return for an enthusiastic and loyal apprentice, The View as the employer will meet the costs of training, provide support and assistance to the trainee at all times, offer generous staff benefits and give a warm and welcoming team to join and develop with. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

About the employer

The View at Seaford Head is a restaurant, bar and function venue set on site at Seaford Head Golf Course. The View’s core business is daily breakfasts and lunches, Sunday roasts, function bookings (parties, business meetings, wakes etc), and catering and refreshments for golfers and golf societies. The work environment at The View is very similar to that of many other restaurant and bar venues. The Head Chef is a very enthusiastic employee, with hopes and aspirations for the kitchen and business; he is committed to getting buy in from his kitchen team to work together to meet these aims. The View at Seaford Head opened in 2015 and therefore has been focussed on finding its place in the market within Seaford and building up a good customer base. The aim over the next 12 months is to continue to develop that on offer at The View, including menus and events, and to promote the use of the venue as a function space for larger events i.e. parties, wakes, business functions, award ceremonies etc. The View is owned by Seaford Town Council; the Council has agreed and documented its visions and strategic objectives, these are available on the Council’s website at www.seafordtowncouncil.gov.uk. The business plan for The View is currently undergoing a review and is due to be presented to the Council for adoption over coming months.
