Exciting opportunity to work as part of a dynamic kitchen in a busy seafront café. You will be part of the team that develops catering for their lunch time trade and evening special nights as well as external catering. Your duties will include basic food preparation, general kitchen housekeeping and cleaning while learning to cook by assisting the chefs and gradually progressing your skills. This is a great opportunity to work with a team that have already developed an apprentice to chef level. You will expand upon knife skills, learn about kitchen due diligence and learn how to prepare and cook a variety of dishes.
Role Highlights

  • Preparation of food items in compliance with standard recipes.
  • Maintain and record temperature control of food items throughout the holding, cooking and serving process.
  • Correct storage and rotation of all food items.
  • Report defects or maintenance faults to kitchen supervisory team.
  • Keep working areas and surfaces clean and tidy.
  • Methods of cooking and presentation are used to maintain the highest standards of production and service.
  • Follow health and safety policy and procedures and be aware of individual responsibilities under legislation.
  • Undertake personal development and/or refresher training as necessary to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge
  • Maintain high standards of personal and general food hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen and associated areas.

  • You will gain a nationally recognised qualification in Kitchen Services at Level 2. As part of your Apprenticeship you will learn how to:
  • Full support with training and development will be provided to prepare the candidate for the next step in their culinary career
  • The role of Apprentice Chef is to provide support to the kitchen team in food preparation and cooking for breakfast, a la carte, events and other services.
  • You will receive onsite training with an award winning training provider

Desired skills

You must have some basic knife skills from home cooking or work/school experince. You must be able to learn on the job while taking instruction

Personal qualities

You must have a passion for a career as a chef, be willing to learn and have common sense in regards to hygiene and safety

Your shifts could be across days, evenings or weekends. The hours may increase to 40 hours in busy seasons, to be discussed at interview.
