    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate to train as a Kennel and Cattery Assistant

The duties will be varied, but could include:

  • Cleaning.
  • Walking in all weathers.
  • Feeding dogs and cats.
  • Administering medication.
  • Various other duties to ensure the kennel and cattery remains a safe and pleasant environment for our guests.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience of handling dogs (we do get caution dogs here).
  • The candidate must be willing to help maintain the overall appearance of the establishment.
  • You must also have a good attention to detail and be able to absorb information and retain it.

Personal qualities

  • Hardworking.
  • Able to use initiative.
  • Reliable.
  • Punctual.
  • Outgoing personality and also be able to communicate well with members of the public.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE Maths and English grade A*-C (or equivalent).

Future prospects

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join the team on a permanent basis on completion of their Apprenticeship.

Located in over four and a half acres of beautiful Essex countryside between South Woodham Ferrers,Burnham and Maldon and licensed by Maldon Council to look after up to 56 dogs and 68 cats. Farcroft has been established for over 20 years we aim to provide the very best in accommodation for your pets. We offer a huge range of food for both cats and dogs as standard or you are welcome to bring your own if on prescription diet or similar. With both cats and dogs being cleaned twice daily our cleanliness standards are second to none and our dogs are exercised twice a day either running free in one of our enclosed gardens or out on the lead around our woodland and paddocks depending on their preferences. Dogs from different families are never mixed and are exercised on a one to one basis or as a family. Kennels and surrounding area covered by 24/7 recorded CCTV and motion sensor Lights.
