    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage rates are £4.05 an hour for 16 - 17 year olds, £5.60 an hour for 18 - 20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship(usually one day per week).

If you enjoy variety then this could be the ideal role for you. One day you could be installing timber in trenches. The next you could be concreting the floor of an office block. There are a lot of safety procedures to get to grips with, but above all, you'll have to be flexible, and happy to work indoors, outdoors or at great heights.

Day to Day Tasks:

  • On Site work, digging, excavating and concreting foundations.
  • Installing drainage and other pipework.
  • Laying appropriate ground works with concrete or tarmac to include dropped kerbs, driveways and paths and roads.
  • The safe use of all tools, plant and materials having due regard for own safety using Personal Protective Equipment provided and maintaining the safety of others in accordance with The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974).
  • Appropriate waste management in conjunction with all tasks undertaken.

  • Applicants need to be enthusiastic, well organised, self-motivated, and punctual. 
  • You need to be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Qualifications required

  • No formal requirements, but it’s useful to have GCSEs, or equivalents, (grade A*-C) in English and maths.
  • You will have to complete a Skills Learning exercise, and may need to attend the college for further tests.
