As a nursery nurse your duties and responsibilities are:

  • plan, prepare and carry out a programme of activities appropriate to the age range and ability of all the children
  • to implement the nursery's equal opportunities policy in relation to all aspects of this post
  • to ensure that all children have the opportunity to take an equal part in every aspect of nursery life
  • to be aware of children's different needs as individual and how to meet them
  • to work as part of the whole team ensuring a continued positive and friendly environment
  • to be prepared to support other team members and cover when asked for absent members across the project
  • to set up, supervise and clear away at mealtimes
  • to supervise children in the bathroom and assist with toileting
  • to report and record all accidents or injuries and ensure parents are informed
  • to be aware of the current safeguarding procedures and to ensure that any concerns either witnessed or disclosed are reported using the nursery procedure
  • to ensure that all health and safety regulations are met throughout the whole project
  • to take part in any training which management feels is appropriate
  • to complete regular development reports and take part in reviews with parents
  • to report any concerns about your key children to the manager
  • to form partnerships with parents which enable you to behave at all times in a professional manner
  • to be responsible with the rest of the team for ensuring that all equipment is kept safe and clean
  • to attend regular staff meetings and supervision sessions as required

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • A good working knowledge of the EYFS and safeguarding policies would be an advantage.

Qualifications required

Level 2 Childcare qualification is essential (applications without this will not be considered)
GCSE all grades (or equivalent)

This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to students in the first year of any new apprenticeship, regardless of level, although some employers may pay a higher rate. 4 The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training 5 A DBS check will be required which we or the nursery will help with. 6 Employer interviews will be carried out before the vacancy closing date, and a start date arranged as soon as possible if you are the successful candidate 7 This role requires you to be on your feet working with children for most of your day. You’ll speak to speak to parents and other staff, fill in paperwork on a daily basis and will be required to take children out of the setting when necessary.

Lammas Green Nursery at St Bartholomew's is a small privately run nursery that is bright, welcoming and fun to be at. Children are welcomed each day by the Lammas Green Team who work closely with all parents to ensure that each child recieves the best care possible. Lammas Green Nursery at St Bartholomew's offers places to children from 2.5 years to 5years old. The nursery is open term time only and we run alongside the same holiday times as most Lewisham schools.

Training provider

Apprentice Nursery Nurse will be employed for up to 40 hours per week. Your employer will appoint a work based mentor to support you and you will get a dedicated training manager from Smart Training. On completion of your training you will be awarded a Level 3 Diploma in Children's Learning and Development (Early Years Educator).
