    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Bessie’s Café and Bistro is looking to appoint a passionate and creative Apprentice Chef who is keen to develop new skills and learn how to become a chef in an exciting modern business. We serve modern daytime café and produce menus from around the world on our Bistro evenings. Bessie’s is an independent Café and Bistro in the suburb of Millhouses, Sheffield.  If you would like to join the team and have a unique opportunity to take your first steps in the industry then this is the apprenticeship for you.

The role will include:

* Helping to cook and prepare food.

* Assisting with the running of the kitchen

* Assisting with the cleaning and maintainence of the kitchen.

Things to consider

This is a vocational job, so you will need to want to do this type of work. There will be long hours as well as the pressure to work well and fast in in the kitchen but in return you will get a solid Job with us and grow as we grow our company. The hospitality industry is a fun industry to be part of, however it can be hard and demanding work. You will be physically active most of the time and may be expected to work evenings and some weekends. You should think about your location and whether you can get to and from your place of work, particularly if working shifts. Extremely unique opportunity to be a part of a small family business that thrives from homemade food and positive atmosphere. From 1st of April 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. Those between the ages of 19-24 who are in their second year (or third year) need to be paid the National Minimum Wage for their age bracket. In April 2016 the new National Living Wage was implemented and therefore if you are over the age of 25 and in your second or third year of an Apprenticeship you will be entitled to be paid the National Living Wage.
