    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

As an Electrical Installation Apprentice you would be learning how to carry out the following duties:

  • Design and Installation 
  • Maintenance
  • Fire Alarms (including fully addressable systems)
  • Emergency Lighting (including P4 system)
  • Isolation's & Disconnection's
  • Fault finding
  • Led Applications
  • Periodic inspection, testing & certification
  • Cat 5/6 data installation
  • Special location's

  • GCSE A - C in English and Maths or equivalent qualification
  • Candidates who achieve Level 1 in functional skills testing at initial assessment with City Training Services will also be considered.

Future prospects

On completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship, individuals will have the opportunity to apply to progress on to the Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND) or a relevant Higher Education (HE) qualification.

Training provider

Competency qualification: You will be expected to complete a comprehensive portfolio of evidence showing competence in all areas of Electrotechnical Services.  This involves 8 mandatory units ranging from Health & Safety, planning and preparation, inspection testing and fault diagnosis.  This portfolio will be paper-based or e-portfolio (access to Internet and PC required) with workplace assessment.

Knowledge:  This aspect of the course is delivered on a day release basis at College.
Functional Skills at level 2 in Maths, English and ICT: This aspect of the course is delivered in the classroom.
Employment Rights & Responsibilities and Personal Learning & Thinking Skills are elements of the framework which are embedded in the knowledge qualification.

Achievement Measurement  2 (AM2) practical exam and multi-choice test over three days at a local test centre
