This role will be to assist in all aspects of running a small business.

The successful applicant will utilise their IT / Social Media skills in all aspects of supporting the the sales and marketing team, and assist in the sales sector.

As a small company, the successful candidate will be required to work in all areas of the business, rather than in a specific department.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establishing a social media presence through our dedicated website.
  • Creating and monitoring e-shots and mails shots from our CRM software.
  • Using reports from Google Analytics in sales meetings.
  • Responsibility for maintaining our corporate identity and branding.
  • Dealing with online enquiries from the web shop and social media.
  • Assist the sales and marketing director in the research and creation of content for the website, social media and existing/new customers by using various IT applications and skills.
  • Take photographs, and produce videos for the website and social media.
  • Assist in all administration tasks, in particular 
  • Assist in stock control and order processing.

The successful candidate will need:

  • Good computer skills – Microsoft office (word, excel, publisher).
  • Creative and forward thinking
  • Must be able to take photographs and videos and then be able to edit and create promotional sales material.
  • The successful candidate should also be able to use various methods and social media, create content for blogs, and assist in some website development.
  • An excellent telephone manner, along with communicating with customers who visit the site.
  • The candidate must also be prepared to learn new skills, and take on new tasks as and when required.
  • The candidate will also need basic skills on how to send and receive e-mails.

Personal qualities

The successful candidate will need:

  • Good time keeping.
  • Good telephone manner.
  • The willingness to learn new skills and undertake any further training to develop the role.
  • Have a good approach to housekeeping within a small business environment.
  • Be able to take instructions for senior members of staff.

Qualifications required

  • To apply for this position, you will need GCSE’s in Mathematics, English and IT at grades A*-D or equivalent. Computer skills (possibly photoshop or a similar editing package).

Future prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be a full-time position within the company. The company is continually looking at different markets, product ranges and selling platforms, and the role within the company would be to develop and expand these. We are also looking to expand our web presence into Europe, and this will be an ongoing part of the role of sales and marketing apprentice. Location by car: Atcham business park is situated on the B4394. It is 9.8 miles from Telford town centre and 6.6 miles from Shrewsbury. The company is a small company, and has a very friendly and relaxed working environment. As we deal with wholesale and trade customers, there are very few face to face customers.

Things to consider

The company: The position will start at £4.50 per hour. This will be reviewed regularly, and there will also be opportunities to earn commission on any increased sales in specific markets. TCAT: Telford College are managing this vacancy on behalf of this company. As part of the screening process of applications you may be contacted by Telford College and invited in for a face to face interview as part of our screening process. The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices from the 1st April 2017 is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. The new NMW applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the Apprenticeship. Anyone not covered by this age category above will be entitled to the NMW appropriate for their age.

About the employer

Lampion and Company (our brand name is Astra Automotive) has been established over 40 years. We specialise in the import and distribution of automotive bulbs, wiper blades and LED lighting. The company has one owner who works remotely from home, one full time director, one part time director, one part time business administrator and a part time warehouse manager. Our company is based in a unit on Atcham Business Park, which is central between Telford and Shrewsbury. The business park is made up of around 50 businesses, and is set in a rural location. We have a warehouse of approximately 2,000 square feet, and two offices. Ample car parking space is adjacent to the unit.

Training provider

As part of the apprenticeship the candidate will be working towards a workplace training plan within their organisation as well as working towards the apprenticeship framework components with Telford College.
