    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

This apprenticeship will involve all aspects of hairdressing to enable you to become an apprentice stylist in a salon.

You will be involved in the following:

  • Basic consultation
  • Shampooing and conditioning
  • Carrying out treatments
  • Basic cutting
  • Perms & Tints
  • Styling
  • Drying and finishing.

Qualifications required

GCSE A - C in English or Maths or equivalent qualification. Candidates who achieve Entry Level 3 in functional skills testing at initial assessment with City Training Services will also be considered. A successful completion of a colour blindness test is also required. 

Future prospects

On completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship, individuals will have the opportunity to apply to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship.

The apprentice will need to work one late shift a week- 10:45am-8pm You should make sure you are able to travel to the company and college before you apply for this vacancy. Competency qualification: 

  • This qualification is delivered through practical and written assignments which are carried out in the classroom and / or in the workplace.
  • Apprentices will be required to produce work tasks and build a portfolio of evidence.

  • Functional Skills at level 1 in Maths and English delivered in the classroom
