We have a fabulous opportunity available for an apprenticeship within our independent Day Nursery where you will be caring for babies and children from the ages of three months to five years.

A successful candidate must be able to arrange their own transport to and from work.

You will be expected, amongst other duties and responsibilities as fully listed in our job description

  • Promote children's intellectual, physical and social development through activities, whilst ensuring that the individual needs of the child are met.
  • Teach and extend a child's learning through appropriate activities and play.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for both children and staff.
  • Attend all training sessions when required.
  • Excellent team player and communicator.

Pay is competitive and determined on level of previous experience in looking after children as well as current academic level and will be discussed at interview. Shift patterns vary as the nursery is open from 7.30am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. Work patterns are negotiated at interview but will need to take into account any days needed to attend training.

Good at working as part of a team as well as being able to work efficiently on your own.

Personal qualities

  • This role would suit a caring and confident individual, who works well as part of a team, who is patient and hardworking.
  • You should also be clean and neat in appearance, punctual, hardworking, polite and nurturing.

Qualifications required

  • Some experience with caring for children would be advantageous, for example babysitting
  • Full training will be provided

Future prospects

Once you have qualified there are so many options open to you. Early Years Professionals (EYPs) work in a wide range of roles shaping the lives of future generations. There is plenty of scope for training to further your professional career and once qualified there are so many paths to choose from. You may want to focus on specialising as a Room Senior with a specific age group, go on to further study to become an Early Years Teacher, work in the field of special educational needs, outdoor learning, speech and language, or management. Jubilee can support you in making these decisions.

Things to consider

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Jubilee Day Nursery is an independent day nursery for babies and children up to the age of five, set in over 53 acres of rural countryside on the West Berkshire / Hampshire borders close to Tadley, half a mile from the A4 Bath Road. We serve families living in villages and towns in West Berkshire, North Hampshire and Reading. We are open 51 weeks of the year from 7.30am to 6pm and are able to offer full time and sessional care for babies and children from 3 months to 5 years. Our nursery prides itself on offering exceptional quality childcare.

We have the ENERGY & EXPERIENCE to give you the EDGE in kick starting your career. Our Learning and Development Coaches will deliver outstanding teaching and learning to help ENERGISE you to complete your apprenticeship training and leave you confident to EXECUTE tasks to the highest standard.

With this apprenticeship you will complete the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Children and Young Persons Workforce
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English & ICT
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills

All training will be delivered in the work place with no requirement for day release to college. You will be mentored by experienced members of staff while developing your skills to a nationally recognised industry standard.
