    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Day to day duties will include:

  • To provide clerical support i.e. filing, photocopying, scanning. 
  • To be responsible for the receiving and processing of mail including distributing medical records or other documentation as required.
  • To assist in the registration of patients to the list ensuring a comprehensive capture of all relevant data.
  • To assist in the receiving and directing patients on arrival in a professional friendly manner
  • To assist with booking appointments for the doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff
  • To assist in escorting patients and visitors around the building as requested.
  • To assist with filing and extracting medical records and any documents relating to medical records, to include the scanning of letters and automated filing of pathology reports as required by the manager or clinicians.
  • To assist with ensuring adequate supplies of stationery/equipment is available in the consulting and reception areas.  This may include moving stationery to and from the storeroom as required
  • To accurately receive and record messages for doctors, managers and healthcare staff.
  • Use of the practice computing system as necessary as defined by the manager.
  • To work collaboratively with other users of the centre; to work in a flexible and positive manner with colleagues, to assist in the promotion of a professional, competent and caring delivery of healthcare to the users of the service.
