Wages explained
The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

A prestigious Salon based at Central Six retail park Coventry has just opened! Beauty and the Barber salon is looking for apprentice's who are enthusiastic and passionate about starting a career in hairdressing to join their bran new friendly team! This will be a full time position working up to 40 hours per week however hours of work will be discussed at interview stage. Hours are likely to involve working at least one late evening and Saturdays are essential.

Typical daily tasks of an apprentice will depend upon experience and previous qualifications. Once a certain level of skill and understanding has been gained tasks will gradually increase . As part of your working work you will receive training from the Heart of England training assessors at our training centre to work towards your level 2 or 3 in hairdressing.

  • Confident with good communication skills
  • Able to speak fluent English.
  • Maths would be advantageous but not essential as this can also be taught. You should be smart, presentable, with a good attitude to work and time keeping

Qualifications required

Candidate needs to be:

  • Fluent in speaking English

Please note: Any candidtates applying for a level 3 apprenticeship must have already achieved a NVQ level 2 in hairdressing.

Future prospects

On successful completion of NVQ level 2 hairdressing, there may be the opportunity to progress onto NVQ level 3 hairdressing and good training program. Beauty and the Barber is a brand new salon who have the vision to grow their business. For apprentices who complete their level 3 in hairdressing there may be the opportunity to progress to team leading or managerial roles.

Things to consider

Applicants must have a realistic idea of what it is like to work as an apprentice in the hairdressing industry and must be willing to help out with the less glamorous tasks such as cleaning! Please be aware that when working as a hairdressing apprentice part of your daily jobs will be to clean and tidy the salon. There will be some long periods of standing. Applicants also need to ensure that they are willing to work Saturdays and at least one late evening before applying for the position as this is a requirement when working in the hairdressing industry.

Training provider

NVQ level 2 Hairdressing will include units such as; health and safety, effectiveness at work, providing consultations, shampooing and conditioning, style and finish hair, set and dress hair, colour hair, cut hair along with a number of optional units which will be discussed on your first visit with the assessor.

NVQ level 3 Hairdressing will include units such as; health and safety, creative cuttting techniques, colour correction services along with a number of optional units which will be discussed on your first visit with the assessor.
