Nursery Nurse Apprentice The Old Barn Day Nursery
The apprentice will be based in one of the age groups in the nursery and will be appointed an experienced member of staff to mentor and support them.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Intermediate Level Apprenticeship
The apprentice will have the opportunity to carry out all the normal tasks of a nursery nurse whilst under supervision which involve:
- Making sure the nursery is safe for the children before they arrive
- Setting up activities as set out in the planning
- Toileting and nappy changing
- Helping and supporting with snack time/ dinner time
- Outdoor play
- Small group work
The apprentice will have the opportunity to attend in-house training alongside members of staff. The apprentice may be included in ratio for short periods from time to time at the Manager’s discretion but will not generally be required in ratio.

- Pride in appearance and presentation
GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths is preferable

Our online learning platform, the Laser, provides interactive learning resources as well as your e-portfolio. It acts as a communication system between you and your tutor and allows you to follow your progress at any time. The Laser is user-friendly and easy to navigate. The learning resources are multi-sensory to suit personal learning styles, such as filmed tutorials, PowerPoint presentations, multi-media challenges, activities, good practice example videos and electronic reading.
Your employer provides your time for ‘off the job’ study and teaching during your paid working hours. This is flexible averaging around 3-4 hours per week.
The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 or over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
