    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Qualifications required

Minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above including Maths and English or equivalent.

About the employer

Originally founded in 1961, Provincial Engineering earned its reputation in the early days by supplying aerospace components throughout the UK. As the Business flourished it further expanded its client base to the food packaging and textile industries, particularly specialising in the production of Cams to facilitate turning rotary motion into linear motion. The focus on the textile and food packaging engineering continued throughout the 80’s and 90’s however as an increasing amount of the UK Companies moved their operations overseas Provincial further developed its capacity to include tool making and general sub contract machining to a wide and varied client base. Since Provincial moved into its third generation of Directors, the business has encompassed new technologies and invested in some of the latest CNC machining centres to be able to offer more competitive and economical machining of both large and small batch components. Provincial today offer a huge wealth of experience and technical expertise in all aspects of Engineering. Brother and Sister team, David Holmes & Christine Allko whom are current Directors are Grandchildren of the original Founder and have collectively been with the Company for over 30 years.
