    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

You will be assisting more senior kitchen staff/chefs in preparing meals off the varied menu with fresh local produce. 

Further duties will include;

  • Working as part of the kitchen team under the direction of the head chef to support the demands of the kitchen
  • Attend college and complete Level 2 Professional Cookery  Apprenticeship
  • Work in a clean and tidy manner
  • Undertake training as required
  • Maintain a positive and proactive attitude at all times

Training provider

Full training will be provided on an ongoing basis through your employer and College to gain your NVQ in Professional Cookery L2.  A sector based assessor will be allocated to you to progress and support you through your course and you will be expected to attend college one day per week. Time spent training will be part of the agreed contracted hours of the working week.
