Desired skills

Good spoken and written English, basic numeracy.

Personal qualities

Confident and articulate individuals required, able to speak naturally but politely and with respect to customers, able to communicate well with colleagues and work as part of a team.  Must be hard-working, always looking for things to do when not busy.

Qualifications required

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, grades A*-C.

Future prospects

At minimum successful apprentices should expect to be offered a barista position earning approximately £300 per week, with impressive candidates offered supervisor or assistant manager positions earning approximately £320 to £340 per week.

Things to consider

Regular weekend work, only occasional weekend off. Occasional evening work for example for private functions, sometimes shifts can be up to 10 hours long, though this is not normal. Apprentice will be expected to occasionally travel to other Larder cafes either for training or to help out in times of staff shortage. Wage to rise up to £240 after 6 months.

About the employer

The Larder operates four cafes in various East London locations, but will shortly launch four new sites in Newham. We serve high quality, freshly made food, not from frozen or pre-prepared, but everything done on site. similarly our coffee is hand-roasted by our Newham roaster Union, and expertly prepared by our trained baristas. We have 60 staff at present, expected to rise to 80.
