    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • To assist service users in personal care including washing, bathing and dressing and taking to the toilet
  • Support residents in their daily needs mobilising around at home mealtimes and personal care
  • To assist at meal times serving, feeding and clearing away
  • To assist in cleaning the home 
  • Responding to call bells
  • Monitoring and recording accidents and issues related to the well being of our residents.
  • To ensure that service users have any aids eg dentures 
  • To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the person in charge

Qualifications required

  • GCSE or equivalent A-D in English and Math's would be preferred but not essential

Future prospects

For the right candidate there are opportunities to progress to level 3 and then possibly a full time permanent role in the care home.

Things to consider

You will be required to undergo a DBS check before starting employment. Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.

Training provider

Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship (Level 2) - 12-15 month programme of work based learning where you will gain the following qualifications;

  • The Care Certificate
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (QCF) 
  • Functional Skills Maths Level 1 
  • Functional Skills English Level 1 

At the end of your qualification you will be required to complete a 60 question multiple choice exam and a 45 minute professional discussion.
