    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Main Duties will include:

  • Provide general clerical/administrative support e.g. typing, making phone calls, sending texts, photocopying, e-mailing sorting and distributing mail.
  • Maintain accurate spreadsheets, including initial input of data.
  • Assist with organisation and production of resources for events e.g. presentations, posters, tickets.
  • Provide refreshments for visitors and meetings as and when required.
  • Required to cover reception during staff absence & school holidays
  • To extend personal knowledge of education matters by way of Professional Development days, seminars. 
  • First Aid assistance as required
  • To make decisions within established working practices and procedures 
  • To exercise personal judgement and discretion within established practises and procedures to deal with confidential and sensitive issues appropriately.
  • The post-holder will be expected to use good common sense and initiative in all matters relating to the prime objectives of the post.
  • To ensure consistency and accuracy of information.
  • To maintain the confidential nature of information relating to the school, staff, students, parents/carers and external partners.
  • To be responsible for the safe keeping of computerised data; ensuring the requirements of the Data Protection Act are met.

On completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship, individuals will have the opportunity to apply to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship.

Training provider

  • Competency qualification: Apprentices will be required to produce work and build an e-portfolio of evidence through blended learning which will include practical and written knowledge assessments which are carried out in the workplace.    
  • Knowledge qualification is delivered in the classroom on a day release basis over a period of 16 weeks.  The course is completed with written / computerised assessments that are delivered in exam conditions in the classroom.
  • Functional Skills at level 1 in Maths, English and IT delivered in the classroom
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities are embedded in the competency qualification.
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills are delivered via a workbook and completed in the workplace.
