    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

A Normal Day Would Include:-

  • Meeting and greeting clients on arrival 
  • Supplying refreshments to clients
  • Gowning clients
  • Providing shampooing and conditioning treatments
  • Maintaining the presentation of the salon

What Can I Progress To?

  • With training you will learn to blow dry, style, dress, colour and cut hair and be given the opportunity to practice your skills in salon where you will be encouraged to bring in models to extend your skills and become qualified at   Level 2.
  • Once you have completed your Level 2 in a hairdressing apprenticeship you can progress onto a Level 3 advanced apprenticeship in Hair or barbering where you will continue to learn new skills and techniques.
  • You will be fully supported throughout your training from our highly qualified team of hairdressing experts who will help you succeed.

Things to consider

Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour from 1st April 2017. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies.
