    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

    This apprenticeship is made up of 30 hours per week, made up of time spent on the job and time spent training. Hours will generally be worked between 9:00am and 4:30pm Monday to Saturday.

Located centrally to Mexborough, Tea or Coffee offers locals a range of hot and cold beverages as well as a variety of food items. 

Independent Training College have just secured the exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Hospitality Apprentice to join the close knit team within this small, family run cafe. 

General Duties and Qualification Units are to Include:

  • Assisting with all elements of food preperation and cooking within the kitchen
  • Assisting customers on the counter with orders and the taking of payments
  • Handling enquiries and orders both face to face and over the phone 
  • Waiting on tables 
  • Housekeeping duties such as cleaning tables, and pot washing 
  • Qualification Unit:Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
  • Qualification Unit:Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
  • Qualification Unit:Maintain food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food
  • Qualification Unit:Food safety in catering

An additional range of optional qualification units will be selected with the employer and learner to tailor all trainint to this specific job role.

Things to consider

Hospitality roles by nature can be demanding and involve long periods of time standing. Kitchens can be hot and uncomfortable to work in all year round and can involve associated hazards such as working with hot cookers and boiling water. This apprenticeship involves working Saturdays so candidates must be prepared to give up part of their weekends for this role.

Training provider

The successful candidate will work towards their full Intermediate Diploma Level 2 in Hospitality Services which will be delivered entirely at the place of work, both on and off the job by Independent Training College. The apprenticeship framework includes functional skills qualifications in maths and english when needed.
