    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

    You will work on a rota that operates over 7 days a week. You will be required to work at least one of Saturday/Sunday every week

The role will combine serving customers with visual merchandising – ensuring that windows and interior displays promote the company's brand values and standards.

You will be responsible for understanding floor layouts and fixture requirements, managing in-store graphics, signage and designing displays and windows.

You will learn about delivering a quality retail service that always aims to exceed customers’ expectations.

You will be involved in key calendar events such as Christmas and Easter where you will learn about the importance of stock management, customer service and how to promote merchandise and enhance sales.

After some time you will have opportunities to learn about and visit some of the others sectors and suppliers which contribute to the smooth operation of our supply chain. This will teach you how retail works behind the scenes so that at the end of the programme you will have a comprehensive foundation upon which to build your career.

Throughout the programme you will have regular reviews with your line manager and coach to discuss your progress to date and individual development plan.

Some of your duties will include;

  • Serving customers
  • Working on the till
  • Learning how to organise products and create displays
  • Taking customers’ orders

You have the opportunity to help out in lots of areas of the business and develop a great understanding of a successful retail business from the top down.

Your role will be primarily based in Cambridge city centre, but will involve some days/hours in our Saffron Walden shop.
