Things to consider
About the employer
Working with Australian shearer, Jim Davidson, Lister designed and developed the No 3 shear - a product superior to any other shearing tool available. This shear, which was renowned for its ability to cut closer to the skin than hand blades, was just the beginning of a revolution which would change the way sheep were shorn forever.
This success through engineering innovation is as much a hallmark of the company then, as it is today. It is this ethos that led to Lister Shearing rapidly developing into an internationally known and trusted brand and enables the company to continue leading the industry.
Today, Lister products are still designed and manufactured in the UK with exports to over 60 countries. The range includes equipment for all levels of user and types of animal making it the first choice for both amateurs and professionals alike.
The company also manufactures horse and cattle clippers, used by the leading racing, show showing and eventing stables.
Both the shearing and clipping equipment have been used by Olympians and world champions and have been used to break several world records.
As a successful apprentice you will undertake an Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering to include an NVQ, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (where applicable), Employment Rights & Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
You will be required to attend college at our SGS Berkeley Green Campus, either on day or block release to complete your technical certificate and some NVQ units. The remaining years you will be assessed within the workplace and you will complete a portfolio of evidence/work.
You will be assigned a supervisor/mentor within the workplace, who will support you to develop your workplace skills, knowledge and experience throughout the duration of your apprenticeship programme.
