The role of an admin assistant is to assist the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and Senior Administrator in every aspect of school office administration.

You will need to work under pressure and be able to multi task. You will need to have excellent ICT, literacy and numeracy skills.

You will be responsible for inputting data into SIMS, (School Information Management System)  and School Comms, the schools online payments and messaging system.

You will need to be confident when answering the telephone and assisting parents, as you will be the first point of reference. You will need to be able to work as part of a team, but also work under your own initiative when the need arises.

You will be taking messages and relaying them to teachers, so accuracy is paramount.

Things to consider

As a part of the application process, you may be required to undertake diagnostic assessments with City College Plymouth. Please ensure that you check your emails for a City College Plymouth application form, this will need to be filled and returned for you to complete these assessments. Until these assessments are complete your application will not be viewed by the company. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

All training to be provided by City College Plymouth in collaboration with the company themselves throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. An NVQ in Business Administration Level 2 will be awarded to the successful candidate on completion of the apprenticeship.
