    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • The salon is a busy and successful boutique which provides its clients with luxurious treatments as well as being involved in the local community and charities.
  • The applicant will be expected to greet and serve refreshments to clients as well as assisting the stylists and shampooing client's hair.
  • They will also be expected to work on reception and help keep the salon tidy.

Qualifications required

No qualifications are needed but good interpersonal skills are preferred.

Future prospects

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to go onto an Advanced Apprenticeship, and an opportunity to become a stylist in the salon. They will also have the opportunity to attend training classes with L'Oreal, Schwartzkopf, Wella or Sassoon.

Things to consider

Hairdressing is physically hard work and you will be standing all day. You will also be constantly interacting with customers and clients.

Training provider

Apprentices will attend college once a month, where all theory work will be taught. Practical training will be provided in the salon. Apprentices will work towards an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing, which includes an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing and Functional Skills qualifications in English and Mathematics.
