    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The successful apprentice will be supported by a fully qualified member of staff who will teach you the necessary skills to successfully complete the apprenticeship programme. You will be involved in a variety of warehouse duties which include stock movement, picking customer orders, checking goods and materials into the warehouse and quality checking goods for damage and shortages.

You will be assisting in the assembly of office and educational furniture on company premises and at client premises. You will be loading and unloading stock items and furniture onto vehicles and into client premises. You will also be packaging goods for delivery via a third party.

In order to be successful, you must have the ability to deal with customers and colleagues on a friendly and professional basis.

Owning a clean UK driving license would be beneficial as visits to clients may be required on occasions.

Personal qualities

In order to be considered for this role you must be polite, punctual, conscientious and have an eye for detail.

Qualifications required

Qualifications required for this role include GCSE’s grades D or above in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.

Training provider

The Level 2 Apprenticeship in Performing Manufacturing Operations consists of:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Manufacturing Operations
  • Level 2 Diploma in Industrial Environment Awareness
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (Level 1)

Attendance will be required at our training centre for one day a week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on site by the employer, where you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will monitor your progress during your training.

Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical.
