    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The successful candidate will use their genuine interest, enthusiasm and appreciation of horticulture to become a reliable and conscientious member of the Plants and Landscape Team. Their professional approach and understanding of Marwell’s Values will enable them to be considerate of guests, colleagues and the environment in which they are working.

Working with the Marwell horticultural team to ensure the park is well maintained. Tasks will include – plant propagation and care, mowing, strimming, weeding, pruning, mulching, sweeping and digging.

Learning to maintain machinery.

To take an active interest in the wider operation of the park.

Contribute to Marwell Wildlife Brand Values, mission and charitable objectives.

Follow health and safety instruction.

D or above Maths and English equivalents accepted.

From October 1st 2015 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.30 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.

Applicants who already have a Level 4 qualification are not eligible for funding for an Intermediate, Advanced or Level 4 Higher Apprenticeships. They are however eligible for a Level 5 or above Higher Apprenticeships.
