    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Quality Engineers carry out all aspects of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration works and are seeking an apprentice who would like to become a part of their expanding business. As an apprentice you will be required to carry out the following duties:

  • Surveying buildings where cooling systems are to be fitted
  • Discussing requirements with customers
  • Designing and installing systems
  • Running quality checks to make sure systems are working properly and safely
  • Diagnosing and fixing faults
  • Carrying out planned maintenance

  • Good communication skills

Personal qualities

  • Applicants will be required to demonstrate:
  • A keen interest in the workings of mechanical or electrical devices
  • An interest in technology
  • An aptitude for technical subjects or be practically orientated
  • A positive and energetic attitude

Qualifications required

  • GCSE Grades A-C or equivalent in English Language or Literature and Maths.
  • Applicants who can also achieve Level 1 on both Literacy and Numeracy BKSB assessments at City Training will also be considered.

Future prospects

On completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship, individuals will have the opportunity to apply to progress on to a relevant Further or Higher Education qualification.

  • Competency qualification: Apprentices will be required to produce work and build a portfolio of evidence through blended learning which will include practical and written knowledge assessments which are carried out in the workplace.  
  • Knowledge qualification is delivered in the classroom on a day release basis over two academic years
  • Functional Skills at level 2 in Maths, English and level 1 ICT delivered in the classroom
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities delivered in the classroom
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills are embedded in the competency qualification
  • F Gas: Practical three day assessment delivered in a workshop environment.
