Apprentice Care Worker required to work in a residential care home in Uttoxeter, which is exclusively for ladies.

The Apprentice Care Worker will play an important team role in the day-to-day planning, organisation and smooth running of the Home, to ensure financial and business objectives are met.

Duties to include:

  • Introduction to Communication in Health & Social Care
  • Understanding the importance of Equality in Health & Social Care
  • Being able to work with individuals to meet specific roles and care needs
  • Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health & Social Care
  • Contribute to Health & Safety
  • Handle confidential information in Health & Social Care settings
  • Support the moving of individuals (supervised)
  • Understand the benefits of engaging in social activities such as singing, dancing and general entertainment
  • Understand the effects of Ageing in activities, offering motivation and morale building
  • Support the individual to maintain personal hygiene (supervised)
  • Support the individual during meal times if and when necessary

Good communication skills, must be looking for a career where you can make a real difference to people’s later years.  Good organisational skills and time-keeping are essential.

Personal qualities

Candidates must be hardworking, reliable and willing to complete any tasks associated with their job role. This role would suit someone with an outgoing personality as they will be expected to join in with all the social activities involved.

Qualifications required

There are no minimum levels of previous qualifications required, however candidates should have a good basic GCSE Grade in Maths and English.

Future prospects

To be discussed on completion of Level 2 training, such as Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Dependant on age and experience you will need to be aware that most of the duties involved in this qualification will be supervised at all times until competency has been proven. Please do not apply if you are not a particularly friendly and outgoing personality. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The Hermitage is a Residential Care Home situated in the charming market town of Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, and is exclusively for ladies who have needs ranging from personal care to dementia care. The Hermitage is registered for 30 female residents, following the completion of a 24-bedded en-suite extension completed in October 2010.
