An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Chef to join our team at Mid Sussex Golf Club based in Ditchling, Sussex.

Working under the Head chef, you will have the chance to develop your cooking skills and career, whilst assisting in daily kitchen duties and being involved in catering for large private events.

Experience in this role is would also be desirable although not essential as full training will be provided.

The position will involve:

  • Preparing food from scratch using fresh, locally sourced ingredients
  • Some kitchen porter duties
  • Food hygiene management
  • Accepting deliveries/document filing and stock management
  • Developing your cooking skills and knowledge

It is anticipated that upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship, and assuming good performance, that a full time permanent position will be available.

Things to consider

Due to the location and shift hours that you may be working you will require your own transport to get to/from work. As an apprentice Chef you will be working on the move in a hot environment. You will also be standing the majority of the time. Shifts will include evenings and weekends. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
