    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Key responsibilities:

  • Checking stock levels within the department
  • Taking briefs from managers and customers to produce correct finish work supporting the team with all aspects of the business related to the role
  • Helping with artwork 

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Computer literate
  • Some publishing programme knowledge for example Quark, Illustrator, In-design
  • Flair for design would be useful but not mandatory.

Qualifications required

  • Successful completion of a relevant level 2 or level 3 qualification, or 5 GCSEs grades A*-C (or equivalent),including English and a creative subject such as Art and Design

Future prospects

To become a qualified and fully competent Pre-press, Digital Press and Studio operator with a full and extensive knowledge of all working programmes, workflow systems and the processes to be followed within the studio and digital print environment.

Things to consider

The role could eventually involve mac design and pre –press set up, some long periods working in the studio and on computer screens.

  • Cn completion you will recive either Edexcel Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Creative and Digital Media (QCF)
