    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.

    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.

TrAC employs apprentices for the duration of their training and places them with a number of different employers over the period of the apprenticeship.

We are looking for a L3 NVQ Site Technician apprentice to work out of an office in Welwyn Garden City . This is an exciting opportunity for someone who would like to learn about supervision and management of construction sites. The successful individual will also learn about the planning and control elements within construction projects. The qualification will include elements of;

  • Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Sustainability, Design, Science, Materials, Maths and Building Technology in Construction
  • Project Management
  • Graphical Detailing
  • Surveying
  • Finance
  • Design
  • Law and Planning Procedures

The ideal candidate will already have completed a trade related qualification or have some experience working in construction.  We are looking for someone who has a real interest in the area as well as the operation of sites. This is an excellent opportunity for somebody looking to further their career and reach their full potential.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • The ideal candidate will probably have already achieved a qualification in a construction related discipline or have experience in working on a construction site
  • Achieving a L3 Site Technician NVQ will enable you to carry out your duties with confidence and help you to communicate effectively at work
  • You will attend college and work on site to gain the vital experience needed to become an effective Site Manager
  • Although it isn’t necessary for the apprentice to drive, the ability to get to site which may not be easily accessible by public transport is integral.

Personal qualities

  • The successful candidate will have good initiative and a willingness to learn, they will also enjoy working with people and as part of a team
  • You will also possess excellent communication skills and be able to establish and maintain good and effective working relationships
  • A real interest in construction is essential as is a strong work ethic and a desire to progress.

Qualifications required

  • Level 2 NVQ or GCSE’s grade C and above in English and B and above in Maths (or equivalent).
  • An offer of employment is subject to you taking and passing the CSCS test and a Drug and Alcohol test.

Training provider

  • Apprenticeship training NVQ Level 3 in Site Supervision.
  • Most of our apprenticeships take 18 months to complete at Level 3, therefore you will be on an 18 month fixed contract.
  • During the 18 month Apprenticeship you would complete an NVQ and Diploma.
  • After completing the Level 3 Apprenticeship you may be given the opportunity to progress to a Level 4 qualification for a further year.
