This is a role for a Business Admin Apprentice, but covers all aspects of how the business works. The intention is very much that an Apprentice starts within the business and main duties will include:

  • Goods inwards
  • Stock allocation
  • Stock control
  • Ordering goods
  • Telephone sales
  • Trade counter sales
  • Merchandising
  • Field sales
  • Invoicing
  • Business development

After the first year it is hoped that the apprentice will progress and continue to grow with the company. This role is based in the Exmouth branch, but in the second year the apprentice is offered the opportunity to work within different branches to understand how the company works as a whole.

There is also the chance to complete a placement with a supplier and a contractor - this is to encourage the apprentice to have a full understanding of how all elements fit together and 'see it' from all sides.

While working the apprentice is also required to attend Exeter College one day a week (for a total of 18 weeks) and complete work towards their qualifications alongside their Skills Officer who will make regular visits to the workplace.

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade A* - C (or equivalent) to include English and Maths.

Future employment if applicable. Option to progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship if applicable also.

Things to consider

We work 42.5 hours per week 8.00am to 5.30pm. However, if the applicant is under 18 years they will finish at 5.00pm and only work 40 hours. When they reach 18 they will revert to 42.5 hours. The starting salary is £3.75 per hour to be reviewed. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
