An apprentice chef who will assist the head chef in the kitchens day to day operation and develop skills and knowledge as a chef.

  • Assist the chefs in preparing meals in either part or in full
  • Responsible for executing allocated dishes on time to the required standard
  • Work as part of the kitchen team under the direction of the head chef to support the demands of the kitchen.
  • Attend college and complete your apprenticeship. Undertake training as required.
  • Work in a clean and tidy manner and ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy conforming to all EHO standards.
  • Maintain a positive and pro active attitude at all times by actively seeking to improve skills and achieve personal development.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations. Comply at all times with the Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Seek to ensure at all times that all visitors or guests on our site have the best experience possible.

Qualifications required

GCSE A*-C in Maths and English or equivalent. A good knowledge of food preferred.

 

Future prospects

Being part of St Austell Brewery Estate there is always opportunity for further training when available through the brewery. We are looking for the right candidate who can grow with the business and become part of our team for a long period of time. Candidates who complete their apprenticeship, we would be looking at employing them full time.

Things to consider

Regular public buses are available to St Austell and Truro. Hours to suit the business and may vary occasionally during busy times and throughout the summer season. £4.30/hour. From April 1st 2017 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for Apprentices is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old Apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other Apprentices the National Minimum Wage appropriate to their age applies. The wage for Apprentices applies to both time spent on the job plus time spent training.

About the employer

The Hawkins Arms is a pub / restaurant with a large tabled beer garden in the centre of Probus. Recently under new management, who are hands on in the running of this pub. The whole pub can cater for over one hundred covers including the garden area, serving home cooked traditional pub food, with some creative special dishes. In the past The Hawkins Arms has had a very good reputation for food and we are seeking the right team members to improve that reputation.
