Traineeship details

This traineeship will give you practical experience of working in the charitable sector and in an administrative role.

As it is a charity, the work is varied and gives you a chance to be involved in many different aspects – one day can be very different to the next!

Customer Service Assistant Role:

Our Customer Service assistants play an important role by raising vital funds for valuable research.

If you enjoy meeting and talking to people and can provide great customer service this could be the

role for you.


As part of this role you will be:

  • Talking to customers and making them feel welcome
  • Advising and helping people as they shop and receiving their donations
  • Keeping our shop floor looking great!

You should be able to demonstrates experience / skills in:

  • Working in a retail environment
  • Dealing with members of the public
  • Being organised and able to follow procedures

You could undertake as part of this customer service traineeship but are not restricted to, customer service, stock rotation, cash handling, IT, research, general administration, helping staff who deal with, fundraising, marketing, and there may be call for our administrative volunteers to be involved in certain aspects of the running of our charity shop.

While the reasons people give their time to us are numerous, we know that working with us can help to develop new skills, and offer valuable experience of working in a busy retail environment.

For that reason we’re pleased to give people the chance to take part in periods of work experience with us.

In our retail locations you will gain valuable work experience in a wide range of roles. You will meet people; make new friends; learn new skills or use your existing skills in a different setting.

You will receive a full induction programme and further training in specific roles. 

Once you have completed your placement you will receive a reference and the opportunity to stay with us as a BHF volunteer.

Every pound we raise in our shops makes a massive difference to people's lives.

While you are gaining work experience with us, you are also helping us to make a big difference in your local community.

Hours will be agreed at interview, total work experience hours will be 236 over the 14 week programme.



Training to be provided

This work experience is part of a full Traineeship programme which will also cover the following

A work experience placement

Week 1 – College induction to prepare for placement starting in week 2.

Week 2 – one day work experience. (to be agreed)

Week 3 –5 -  two day’s work experience (to be agreed)

Week 6-13- three day’s work experience (To be agreed)

Week 14- no work experience/feedback and debrief

In addition to the placement days the full Traineeship programme also includes the following:-

Tuesday 9.00am-12.00 midday - Work skills training which includes interview skills, work preparation, CV etc. this will be delivered at The Point at Kidderminster College.

Functional skills in maths and English (for those that do not possess grade C’s in maths and English) workshop session between delivered at The Point Kidderminster College, sessions to be confirmed
