Traineeship in Butchery A B P Langport
Closing date: 01 Oct 2017
Are you looking for a practical based career and have good manual dexterity and attention to detail?
Join ABP, Langport’s Award Winning Butchery Traineeship / Apprenticeship Programme, where you will be supported and trained as a Beef Butcher on completion of our Traineeship programme. This practical based Traineeship is about training for a real job, with real responsibility and real financial benefits. At the end of the traineeship we will then interview for our butchery apprenticeship programme.
ABP Langport is looking to recruit another 12 apprentices this year to join their Award Winning “Best Company Training Scheme” which will commence in October. This award is endorsed by the Institute of Meat (IOM), the professional body for those working in the meat industry.
As part of the programme you will be supported by a full time trainer. The week is divided into 4 days spent in production on the butchery training line and 1-day theory study on site, supported by Bridgwater College. Our flexible approach means that this can be carried out in the working environment.
Students will attend a “fun” team building day once a month as part of the programme. This was piloted last year and has been very successful and well received by the current candidates.
As part of the role you will learn various craft and knife skills used for cutting, boning, trimming and the principles of meat including knowledge associated with the carcase, by-products, primal, joints and muscles. You will gain an understanding of the meat sector, the handling of livestock and animal welfare.
You will be trained in health and food safety including hygiene both in personal terms and as part of the wider food sales/production environment.
The apprenticeship is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge and behaviours required by the butchery employers.
