What you will do in your working day

Please note that this is an apprenticeship position and therefore anyone with more than six months professional experience working as a software tester or who holds an ISTQB foundation certificate will not be eligible.

You will also need to commit to completing a Level 4 Software Testing Apprenticeship.

 

Duties

  • Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback
  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Estimate, prioritise, plan and coordinate testing activities
  • Design, develop and execute automation scripts using open-source tools
  • Identify, record, document thoroughly and track bugs
  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved
  • Develop and apply testing processes for new and existing products to meet client needs
  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g. developers and product owners) to identify system requirements
  • Monitor debugging process results
  • Investigate the causes of non-conforming software and train users to implement solutions
  • Track quality assurance metrics, like defect densities and open defect counts
  • Stay up-to-date with new testing tools and test strategies
  • Be aware of strategic & project deliverables as communicated by product owners and stakeholders
  • Produce comprehensive evidence of testing documentation to accompany developed solutions, aiding the wider team to understand specific testing criteria
  • Work with software developers, product owners and stakeholders to identify the best solution for tasks
  • Investigating and using new technologies where relevant
  • Any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your main duties as requested by your line manager

The training you will be getting

As part of the Level 4 Software Tester apprenticeship standard, you’ll be registered as a member with the British Computer Society and be on a fast track to an industry recognised qualification and your dedicated industry coach will support you through a blended approach that will include remote, in person, 1-2-1 and and group learning.

Things to consider

Location: we are based in Hull (HU1 2HU) and you will be required to work from the office for a minimum of 3 days per week. There may be a requirement to attend the office for more than 3 days per week, especially at the start of the apprenticeship.
