What you will do in your working day

You will support the team, under the supervision of a Project or Senior Quantity Surveyor, assisting in the full range of Quantity Surveying duties.

This will include assisting in:

  • Undertaking pre and post contract Quantity Surveying roles
  • Creating Cost Estimates and Cost Plans
  • Preparing Cashflow Forecasts
  • Compiling reports
  • Attending meetings
  • Visiting site
  • Advising on cost implications due to design changes, alternative forms of procurement or construction etc.
  • Collating and preparing tender documentation
  • Undertaking Value Engineering exercises
  • Preparation and compiling of Contract Documents
  • Undertaking Valuations
  • Assessment of progress of works on site and checking of stock on site
  • Preparing Final Accounts
  • Arithmetical checking of documentation
  • Filing, archiving and document control

A typical week will usually involve one or more supervised visits to sites with the remainder office based.

The training you will be getting

  • Apprentice qualification - BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).  This is usually undertaken as a day release over the course of five years.
  • 1 day per week university attendance at BCU.
  • 20% off the job training, including weekly university attendance.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • Once the apprenticeship has been completed Greenwood Projects will offer APC support to become Chartered.

Things to consider

Greenwood Projects have a successful apprentice programme, with students already attending the course, support with peers will be available. Driving licence and car ownership desired but not essential, it is envisaged that during the training period you would accompany Senior staff members on site visits and visits to other company offices.
