What you will do in your working day

  • Install copper cabling. Category 6/6a/7. Learn how to correctly install cabling and understanding current standards industry regulations
  • Install Fibre Optic cabling. Learn how to install fibre optic including fusion splicing and testing using andunderstanding an OTDR
  • Interpret project plans to construct and fix network equipment cabinets, prepare cable pathways, andinstall cable support and containment systems
  • Install network equipment in cabinets, in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications including routers, switches and WAN equipment
  • Installation of various equipment including PBX systems, Wireless Access Points, Networking Equipment and AV Equipment
  • Carry out maintenance where faults have occurred
  • Undertake site surveys to understand works required
  • Work in potentially hazardous areas such as building sites and exercise responsibility for health and safety
  • Understanding the relevant responsibilties with regard to the Health and Safety at work act 1974

The training you will be getting

You will work towards an Advanced level Network Cable Installer Apprenticeship delivered by VQ Solutions. You'll have a dedicated VQ Mentor and will also be supported internally by your manager.  

During this apprenticeship, you will develop a portfolio, attend training courses, and have regular reviews. All apprenticeship work will be completed during working hours.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

The majority of apprentices are offered a full-time role upon the successful completion of their apprenticeship.

Things to consider

This position will be mainly based around Cornwall but you may sometimes be required to travel to Devon / Plymouth
