What you will do in your working day

Job Purpose:

Work towards completion of IPS apprenticeship training scheme. Gain the practical skills required to perform the role of Dual Skill Technician with a bias in Electrical Engineering.

Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Your key responsibilities are:

·         Attend day release course as required.

·         Keep up to date with all course work, workbooks and logs. 

·         Successfully pass all stages of NVQ / HNC to a minimum of a merit level.

·         Continually check your progress against the training logbook with your mentor.

·         Manage your time to allow IPS representatives to visit you and your mentor in the workplace on a regular basis.

·         Shadow and support colleagues within the engineering team to develop practical skills.

·         Develop good working relationships with members of the engineering team.

·         Ensure that safety procedures are always followed for the safety of yourself and others.

·         Comply with all company policies.

·         Be responsible for your own personal development.

·         Attend and participate in the daily maintenance morning meeting.

Responsibilities include:
·         Attend and participate in the daily maintenance morning meeting.

·         Develop good working relationships with members of the engineering team.

·         Ensure that safety procedures are always followed for the safety of yourself and others.

·         Support the team with breakdown assistance as and when required.

·         Monitor machine failures and make changes or recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.

·         Support the team with carrying out preventative maintenance schedules.

·         After appropriate training keep accurate records of work carried out on SAP.

·         Support the team with projects and process improvements, taking a lead on identifying improvements.

·         Shadow and support colleagues within the engineering team to develop practical skills.

·         Attend day release course as required.

·         Keep up to date with all course work, workbooks and logs.

·         Continually check your progress against the training logbook with your mentor.

·         Comply with all company policies.

·         Be responsible for your own personal development

The training you will be getting

Year 1 of the Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, the learner will attend four days a week within IPS Rochester workshop completing practical skills (Performing Engineering Operations) and one day a week studying the Technical Certificate. In Year 2, the Apprentice moves to day-release and will attend IPS one day a week to continue the Technical Certificate. Starting in Year 2 and continuing until completion in Year 4. The Apprentice will continue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Ability to become a Shift Technician, Day Technician, Process Technician (within Mechanical or Electrical Discipline)
