What you will do in your working day
Learning Basic Skills: Apprentices start by learning the fundamentals of metal fabrication, including reading blueprints, using hand and power tools, and understanding different welding techniques. Assisting Experienced Fabricators: Apprentices work alongside skilled fabricators to assist in fabricating, assembling, and finishing metal components and structures. This includes tasks such as cutting, bending, welding, and grinding metal pieces. Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety protocols and procedures is paramount in metal fabrication. Apprentices learn about safety equipment usage, hazard identification, and safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries. Material Handling: Learning how to handle and manage different types of metals is essential. This involves understanding material properties, proper storage, handling techniques, and inventory management. Quality Assurance: Apprentices are taught to maintain high-quality standards in their work. They learn to inspect fabricated parts for accuracy, completeness, and conformity to specifications. Blueprint Reading: Understanding technical drawings and blueprints is crucial in metal fabrication. Apprentices learn how to interpret these documents to determine dimensions, tolerances, and assembly instructions. Machine Operation: Operating various metalworking machines and equipment, such as saws, drills, lathes, shears, press brakes, and CNC machines, is part of the apprenticeship training. Welding Techniques: Apprentices are trained in different welding processes. Problem-solving: Developing problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that may arise during fabrication processes, such as material defects, equipment malfunctions, or design discrepancies.
