What you will do in your working day

Working as part of a maintenance team serving 3 factories with a strict attitude towards health and safety.  Duties will include:

  • Work with engineering team to maintain the plant through breakdown repair and preventative maintenance schedule
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects on site
  • Always work in a manner that ensures a safe working environment for all
  • Communicate effectively with various teams within the business
  • Work towards NVQ3 qualification in Engineering discipline by portfolio presentation and witnessed working tasks
  • Year 1, training 4 days a week at IPS international to achieve basic engineering skills at NVQ2 level
  • Year 1&2, day release 1 day a week at IPS international to achieve BTEC qualifications in engineering discipline

The training you will be getting

Year 1 of the Level 3 Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard, the learner will attend four days a week within IPS Rochester workshop completing practical skills (Performing Engineering Operations) and one day a week studying the Technical Certificate. In Year 2, the Apprentice moves to day-release and will attend IPS one day a week to continue the Technical Certificate. Starting in Year 2 and continuing until completion in Year 4. The Apprentice will continue to receive regular training contact with IPS all throughout the programme.

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, there is the potential to join fully skilled engineering team to continue your use of skills learned to not only maintain the plant as required but further educate future apprentices and new starts.
