What you will do in your working day

  • Soft Landscaping

Assist in the planting of trees, shrubs, flowers, and other greenery.

Learn correct soil preparation, irrigation, and mulching techniques.

Participate in the maintenance and care of lawns and grassy areas, including mowing, edging, and fertilizing.

  • Hard Landscaping 

Assist in the installation of various hardscape features such as patios, pathways, play areas and retaining walls.

Gain proficiency in using tools and equipment for concrete mixing, bricklaying, and paving.

Learn to work with different materials, including stone, concrete, and wood.

  • Site Preparation 

Support in clearing and preparing construction sites.

Assist with excavation, digging, and levelling as required for landscaping projects. 

  • SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.

Adhere to local regulations and industry standards regarding landscaping practices.

  • Equipment Operation 

Learn to operate and maintain landscaping tools and machinery, such as lawnmowers, tractors, rotovators and power tools.

  • Customer Interaction

Communicate professionally with clients and project stakeholders under the guidance of the senior landscapers.

Address client concerns and inquiries as needed.

  • Team collaboration 

Work effectively as part of a landscaping team, supporting team members in various tasks.

Assist with project planning and coordination as you gain experience.

The training you will be getting

This is a level 2 horticulture apprenticeship that includes the following mandatory qualifications:

  • Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (1 Day course-Ofqual registered qualification)
  • LANTRA Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides or C&G Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides
  • LANTRA Level 2 Award in Safe Application of Pesticides Using Hand-Held Equipment or C&G Level 2 Award in Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Hand-Held Equipment
  • (Landscaping construction) City and Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Abrasive Wheel Machines or Lantra Abrasive Wheel Machines Course
  • An apprentice is expected to attend college at least 1 day a week at the Botanical Garden Study Centre
  • Functional Skills in English and maths if required
