Summary
The apprentice will be working under the direction of the class teacher to enable access to learning for pupils, to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom and to develop good personal relationships within the school team. They will always help to contribute to a happy, challenging and effective learning environment.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Supporting the Pupil:
- Under the guidance of the class teacher, undertake work/care/support programmes to enable access to learning
- Take responsibility for adapting and delivering learning activities with individuals or small groups who would benefit from a different learning approach as agreed.
- Encourage and promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupil
- Aid the learning of pupils by clarifying and explaining instructions; ensuring that the child is able to use equipment and materials provided; motivating and encouraging the child as required;
- Supporting pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies; developing appropriate resources to support pupils; helping pupils to concentrate and to finish the work set; liaising with the class teacher about Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher.
Supporting the Teacher:
- Organise the learning environment and develop classroom resources as required.
- Monitor and track progress and provide feedback to assist in developing IEPs for children with additional needs.
- Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, problems, etc
- Contribute to the management of pupil behaviour, including anticipating and taking action to prevent potential problems arising.
- Undertake support activities for the teacher as required.
Supporting the Curriculum:
- Undertake programmes linked to local and national learning strategies e.g. Literacy, numeracy, early years – recording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher.
- Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupil’s competence and independence in its use.
- Provide targeted support to enhance learning and improve attainment.
Supporting the School:
- Be aware of, and comply with, policies and procedures, e.g. child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Accompany staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with other staff, parent and carers.
- Attend relevant meetings as required.

Training schedule
The majority of your training will take place within the workplace; however you will be required to attend a mandatory college day, which takes place on one day in every three weeks
More training information
You will be supported by an academic assessor, who will visit you in the workplace to complete professional discussions and practical observations. The assessor will also liaise closely with your workplace supervisor to ensure that you are committed to completing the set assignments on time; however we will follow the College's disclipinary process for any learners that do not meet your employer's or our expectations.
You will also be allocated a student mentor to support you for any pastoral needs that may occur during your time of your apprenticeship.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English Literature and/or Language (grade C/4 or above)
- Mathematics (grade C/4 or above)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
To ensure that you pass the short-listing for this vacancy, you MUST be able to evidence that you have already achieved the minimum GCSE grades (or Functional Skills Level 2 in both subjects) as stated. You will also be required to attend an assessment at Peterborough or Stamford College; which will comprise of an online English and Maths assessment and an interview - successful applications will then be passed to the employer for consideration. For a successful candidate there may be the opportunity to be supported in qualifications in Further Education or you will be employed in a permanent TA position within the business.
