Summary

The school has supported the apprenticeship levy for several years and we are now looking to develop and support local people who are committed to improving the lives of the children within our community. You would be welcomed into our supportive environment and receive the training required to become a successful teaching assistant.

Wage

£11,778 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

This role is term time only and therefore the advertised salary is pro-rata based on the term-time only nature of this role.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • To work under the guidance of the class teacher, SEN Coordinator or Head of School to implement agreed work programmes with individuals or groups of pupils to promote effective teaching and learning
  • To occasionally supervise whole classes during the short term absence of the class teacher (with appropriate supervision of a teacher, not necessarily based in the class)
  • To provide general support to the class teacher in the management and organisation of the pupils and the classroom
  • To assist the teacher in creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment
  • To promote the inclusion of all pupils
  • Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area including, by arrangement, the supervision of pupils in out of school hours activities

  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
